Saturday is a day full of celebrations and customs that gather huge crowds.

At 6:00, at the church of Panagia ton Xenon, a hymn is read to represent the earthquake that took place after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

At 9:00, a procession takes place in the town centre, accompanied by the three bands of Corfu Town, who play a rendition of "Amleto", "Calde Lacrimae" and "Sinfonia Eroica".

At 11:00, after the procession has finished, a hymn is sung in the Holy Metropolitan Church and after a certain phrase is sung, the locals throw old clay pots (botides) from their balconies in front of thousands of spectators.

At 11:01, an old local custom called "Mastela" has been brought back by the locals. A barrel is filled with water and decorated with ribbons and myrtles; all passersby are encouraged to throw coins in the barrel and at the end of the day, the first person who jumps in the barrel is rewarded with the contents of that barrel.

In the evening, locals gather in their villages or in the Corfu Town centre to listen to the hymns sung in the churches. Everyone carries a candle and they all light them up whilst bands play music and fireworks are set off by the Old Fortress.
